Law Enforcement

SafeTested staff has worked with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies to bring down a large Romanian phishing ring. We provided ample evidence of phishing and hacking attempts which eventually led to the indictment of 38 cyber criminals with links to global organized crime.

According to the FBI report, these fraudsters worked mainly out of Romania and went phishing for credit card numbers and then sent this ill-gotten personal information to their partners in the US. These US criminals then used the credit card numbers to access their victim’s accounts through ATMs. A percentage of this fund was then wired back to the Romanian suppliers.

Types of Phishing Sites Taken Down

SafeTested staff has successfully taken down all type of phishing sites, including:

Hacked sites on other businesses domains
User-Generated content pages such as resume posting sites
Sites hosted at regular web hosting companies
Botnet based phishing sites where the phishing site is spread across tens to hundreds of regular PCs acting as web servers
